I realize this about one particular subject but one reason conservatives of all colors or tribes do not manage to overcome liberal think is the internecine problem. We cannot agree on everything so we pull apart from each other instead of pulling together to the greater goal. On the other hand, progressives plow on ahead running over all of us.
I find it amusing that anybody would hang a photo of RFK in a place of honor next to MLK Jr.
Given that the former authorized illegal wiretaps and surveillance of the latter. But hey, symbols are symbols, right? They mean whatever you demand they mean.
Camelot, speaking of symbols, was and remains very powerful. RFK benefited from that reflection, plus his death made him a martyr.
Pathetic really, that the worst of the trio survived to live far too long, and passed with far too many accolades. But saying that Teddy was "the worst" ignores the length of his career, which gave us plenty of examples of what an odious man he really was. Perhaps the sainted two (JFK and RFK) actually benefited from dying at the height of their mystical arc, and had they lived as long they might have suffered the same Dorian Grey-like deterioration. Or rather, the flaws in their characters would have become to gross ot ignore.
Yeah, he spoke with the KGB about assisting them in destabilizing Reagan's administration. The Soviets gave him a pass, either because they thought it was a setup, or because Ted was an undisciplined drunk.
Of course later, after the USSR folded, he bragged that "we were all Cold Warriors" and that "politics ended at the water's edge."

Time, Stephen, time.
This was mostly back in the 60s and 70s, before most of us knew of any of that.
Back then, black grandmas were still hanging pictures of Jesus on the wall, a guy who looked suspiciously like Kenny Loggins.
Before my great-aunt passed in 2012 at 91, I got rid of a lot of her questionable items. One was a similar portrait.

Didn’t Ted sell out to the USSR in the 80s?
