I appreciate your writing this, although I already knew some of it. In one of his books, Thomas Sowell wrote about the two African slave trades--one to the Americas, and one to the Arab world. Of the trans-Atlantic slave trade, most slaves were taken to the Caribbean and South America (Brazil did not abolish slavery until the 1880s). The Arab slave trade had two branches--one from West Africa, and another from East Africa. But the treatment was just as bad in both directions.
