Before the assassination attempt, someone asked me if I was still a “Trump fan” and I objected to the term.
“I have never been a fan of Donald Trump. I know you don’t like him and a person and neither do I! But I’m not standing outside of his mansion hoping to get his autograph, nor do I want him or his kin to marry into my family! I just think he made a competent president and he will do so again.”
She changed the subject. Assholes make the best leaders, more often than not.
Fanboys and fangirls are for entertainers, not for political office holders. Obama is where the line between president and object of worship got stepped over - catapulted over is more like it. Biden gets a little of that backwash but only a little because, well, Biden.
And Trump, unfortunately, has become the GOP object of worship and hatred, equal to that of Obama.
I think Trump’s brush with death - and the coinciding murder of an innocent man, Corey Comperatore - has humbled him greatly, but, in contrast, the miracle of his survival has elevated him to the status of legend. Be careful, people.
Now we wait to find out who ordered the Code Red. There is a very long list of “coincidences.”
I was a Trump agnostic in 2016. Voted, not so much for him, as for "Not Hillary." Was pleasantly surprised and gratified at most of his policies, and aggravated by his no-so-great judgement on who to trust around him. The COVID response was a stumble, but he followed what "the experts" were telling him, not considering that they were for the most part deliberately sabotaging him. But who would suspect that, other than some nutter, right? That's treason!
Watching the left paint him as Literally Hitler and an existential threat to the nation was galling. Because it also meant that they thought the same about anybody supporting him. Even more blatant were the labels of "extremists" and even "domestic terrorists." The cute remarks about reprogramming or reeducating us were a nice touch. Hey, we're Americans, or have you all voted us off the island?
But they want him dead - for wanting secure borders, a stable economy, some public safety, a strong national defense, and other fringe desires shared until recently by nearly all Americans.. That alone ought to be enough to make Americans support him.
One thing that does make me cringe - people saying "God spared" Trump. Not only is that close to idolatry, but it means you have to explain why God wanted Corey Comperatore dead. Trump was very lucky, and so were we. So far. Because they still want him dead.
Trump reminds of many top producer real estate agents I met while in the business. They moved quickly from one money making venture to the next, with little time in between to entertain elevator pitches or small talk. It IS a state of mind of the hyper-productive class. Politicians can waste time because their checks are guaranteed. Self-employed cannot. Time IS money.
Some liken this to a cold & dispassionate world-person view, nearly pathological. In many ways, yes. Trump does however, have that personae that openly and privately lavishes gratitude upon those he trusts and whose help he appreciates, and when he wants to help someone.
I had one oncologist who was this way. Dr Jakobowiak. A polish doc who specialized in multiple myeloma in which I was fortunate enough to be treated by. He spent inordinate amounts of time with us discussing my case but also, how we were doing. Small talk, 45 minute appointments. So unlike my orthopedic surgeon (repairing myeloma damage), once our case was done being discussed, you could see his demeanor change.
Trump did, when possible, manage things American quite well. He worked on America's interests. Not there to meet one's personal needs but rather, keep the trails & pathways open so people can find ways. That's what is needed. Dems lavish taxpayer's goods & dollars to buy votes, Trump worked to open trails forward. He also did it for $1.00 a year.
